Image Consultant Jen Auh Shares 6 Wardrobe Staples Every Guy Should Own

Interviewing Image Consultant Jen Auh

Style and fashion are important parts of our everyday life. The fastest way to attract attention is to look good. If you dress shabbily, people are likely to ignore or avoid you.

Fortunately, dressing well and looking good is not something that’s restricted to women alone. Men must groom and shop to gain confidence and promote both their personal and individual lives, said Jen Auh in an interview we had with her on the wardrobe stables we think every guy should own.

Jen Auh is a renowned Image Consultant, Personal Stylist, and Founder of Style Konsult & STYiLES. This was how the interview went.

What should fashion mean to a man?

Jen Auh: The world has changed, and the narrative that only women care about fashion hardly exists anymore. The truth is, whether you’re a man or a woman, how you present yourself is important in business, and when it comes to establishing your image, your wardrobe choice can make or break your efforts. If you pick clothes that don’t suit you or work well for the events you’re going for, you’re going to end up looking tacky.

So, I think fashion to a man should mean doing the barest minimum to look good. Of course, that shouldn’t stop you from going all out if you can afford to.

How can a guy improve his dressing sense?

Jen Auh: Men can improve their dressing sense by observing what film stars, successful people, and those they think look good to wear. It’s one of the things you need to take your outfit from 0 to 100.

You also follow some basic styling guidelines, such as matching the color of your shoe with your belt and wristwatch if it’s tucked in. If it’s a t-shirt, never wear it tucked in unless it’s a polo tee. Wearing a watch shows that you understand the benefit of being punctual.

I can also give some essential tips that will surely elevate your sense of style. Just by merely preparing your clothes before you wear them, finding the perfect size for your body, dressing for the occasion, and simply buying the things you love to wear will definitely boost your confidence when it comes to dressing up.

How can a guy build up a professional wardrobe?

Jen Auh: You can begin by investing in blazers, slacks, and sports jackets. If they are of good quality, you’ve already covered the foundation. Then you may start to build on that.

For example, you may want to buy suits; two is the lucky number, in black, navy blue, or charcoal grey. Add shirts and ties, and you’re good to go. You can pair them with your blazer, suits and sports jackets.

Since most suits are light enough for hotter seasons and thick enough for colder ones, you shouldn’t have to buy separate suits for different seasons.

You should also invest in two to three dress shoes if you don’t have any. Laced-up shoes should work best.

What are the wardrobe staples every guy should have?

Jen Auh: This refers to every guy’s basic things in his wardrobe. These things are affected by factors such as what’s trending, the weather, where you live, and what you do.

Can you mention at least 6 of those basic wears?

Jen Auh: Yes. The first thing every guy needs is a button-down shirt. It’s a smart-casual outfit you can pair with dress pants and jeans.

The second is a solid white t-shirt. This goes with anything and can introduce variety into your wardrobe. The third is a tailored suit; get jeans and chinos, add two or three suits and a good coat, then you’ll be ready to go.
